As Work Weather Wife opened on this Friday with high expectations and a long wait for the release, Canadian Punjabi audience finally got insights of the film. It is currently playing in Los Angeles, Vancouver, Toronto, Edmonton and Calgary at Cineplex and Landmark theaters.
As Punjabi audience witnessed opening of the film along with Canadian International FTV Festival on November 12 and highlighted on prestigious print media such as straight.com and toronto.com.
The film proves to be the most intriguing Punjabi film in the history of Punjabi Cinema. Vick (Harpreet Sandhu) handles the film throughout with international class acting skills along with edgy performance of Dimple (Reema Nagra). Other lead Dilbag Brar has done an exceptionally good job. The supporting cast of the film really supports as pillars and moves the story forward in a very smooth manner.
Acting skill of Harpreet Sandhu has proved to be par excellence. Never has it happened in the Punjabi Cinema that an actor of his caliber has been seen. His jawdropping performance as Vick wins him a nomination as best actor at Canada International FTV festival award and leaves the jury with an everlasting impression of Punjabi actor.
The direction of the film also wins a nomination at the awards and scenes are well executed with absolutely no flaws. The scene at the intermission really makes it’s mark when you see the female audience crying at the interval. This brings Harpreet Sandhu at the forefront of Punjabi Cinema as the most promising film director of all time.
Reema Nagra has also done an exceptionally good job in acting with one nomination win as best actress at the festival. She plays well the role of a Canadian immigrant girl who twists her tongue to pull off Canadian accent and at times she becomes successful. She has firm grip on the character. Dilbag Brar acts as third pillar and supports the film throughout with real life character.
Along with direction and acting, the screenplay of the film is in international competition for Best Screenplay in the world at world’s most prestigious awards, Oscars and Golden Globe. The story of the film is so intriguing that at the festival in Los Angeles the jury members unpatiently waited for one hour to restart the film on a projector malfunctioning. Everybody was so excited to watch the ending of the film. From music of the film, two songs, Chann sung by Alka Yagnik and Arsh Avtar and Lambi Gutt sung by Dilbag Brar are in nominations for Canada Academy Awards (Canada National Awards). Harpreet Sandhu is also in nominations for first time Canadian best film director for national award, and best actor. Reema Nagra is in nomination race for best actress at Canada Academy Awards.
Film is commercial yet artistic in nature, beautiful scenery of British Columbia, a mind blowing special effect, exceptionally well executed script, well written screenplay, romantic, sad and beat songs and proves itself to deserve 4.5/5. It is a must watch for all youth, middle and senior aged audience.
