Mumbai: Actress Kangana Ranaut has spoken out in support of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan after the former Miss World faced online criticism for her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, calling out trolls and defending fashion as a form of personal expression.

Aishwarya, who has long represented a global beauty brand at Cannes since the early 2000s, attended the prestigious film festival this year along with her daughter Aaradhya Bachchan. Her red-carpet look quickly became a topic of discussion on social media, drawing both praise and criticism.

Responding to the backlash, Kangana reshared a photograph of Aishwarya on her social media story and strongly defended the actor’s styling choices. She described fashion as an individual expression of identity, attitude, and personal perspective, stating that no woman is obligated to meet public expectations about how she should look.

In her message, Kangana said Aishwarya looked “graceful” and questioned the trend of online trolling, especially directed at women. She further added that audiences must learn to accept the presence of older women on international red carpets without judgment or comparison.

The look in question featured Aishwarya in a structured blue couture gown designed by Amit Aggarwal. The outfit, titled Luminara, was inspired by the concept of light in motion and featured sculptural detailing meant to reflect energy and fluidity through design.

The ensemble was styled with soft curls, subtle pink-toned makeup, bold red lipstick, and diamond jewellery accented with blue stones. A sheer drape added to the overall aesthetic of the look, giving it a dramatic red-carpet finish.

Kangana’s comments have added a new dimension to the online debate, shifting focus from fashion criticism to broader discussions about age, representation, and respect for personal style choices in the entertainment industry.

The Cannes Film Festival, one of the world’s most high-profile cinematic events, concluded recently, once again drawing global attention to celebrity fashion and red-carpet appearances.
