Kangana Ranaut Reacts to Emergency Protests in Punjab, Calls It

Kangana Ranaut on Emergency Protest in Punjab: Facing protests in Punjab against her latest film Emergency, Kangana Ranaut has broken her silence, calling the backlash an unfair attack on her work and her reputation. The protests, spearheaded by Sikh groups and the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC), have disrupted the screening of the film in multiple cities.

"This is complete harassment of art and the artist," Ranaut said in a statement. "From various cities in Punjab, we are receiving reports that people are not being allowed to screen or watch Emergency. This is not just about my film—it is about stifling creative expression."

Addressing accusations that the film misrepresents Sikh events and tarnishes the community’s image, Ranaut strongly refuted the claims. "I have utmost respect for all religions. Having studied and grown up in Chandigarh, I have closely observed and followed the Sikh religion. The allegations against me and my film are baseless propaganda designed to tarnish my image and harm Emergency," she asserted.

The political drama, which explores the 1975 Emergency imposed by then-Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, has been under fire for allegedly mishandling sensitive Sikh-related historical incidents. The SGPC has appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to ban the film, citing potential harm to communal harmony.

Despite the protests, Kangana expressed optimism about the film's message resonating with audiences. "This is a story about resilience and the pursuit of justice, values that align with Sikh teachings," she said.

The controversy has cast a shadow over the film’s release in Punjab, with some theaters canceling screenings due to fear of unrest. As the protests escalate, it remains to be seen how the state government will respond to the SGPC's demands.
