Former India cricket captain Kapil Dev had a straightforward reaction when asked about recent comments made by Yograj Singh, father of former cricketer Yuvraj Singh. Yograj, during an interview on “Unfiltered by Samdish,” alleged that he once confronted Kapil Dev with a gun after being dropped from the team.
“When Kapil Dev became captain of India, North Zone, and Haryana, he dropped me for no reason,” Yograj claimed, recounting his grievances.
Yograj further alleged that his wife, Yuvraj Singh’s mother, encouraged him to question Kapil. “I took my pistol out and went to Kapil’s house in Sector 9. He came out with his mother. I abused him a dozen times. I told him, ‘I want to put a bullet through your head, but I won’t because your pious mother is standing here,’” he said.
When reporters asked Kapil Dev for his reaction to these statements, the cricket legend initially responded with a blunt, “Kaun hain? (Who is he?)” Upon clarification that it was Yuvraj’s father, he calmly redirected the conversation, asking the reporters if they had other questions.
Yograj Singh’s Controversial Statements
Yograj Singh, who played one Test and six ODIs for India during the 1980-81 tour of Australia and New Zealand, has made headlines recently for several controversial remarks about his former teammates.
Among his claims, Yograj alleged that late spinner Bishan Singh Bedi conspired against him during his cricketing career. “These guys, including Bishan Singh Bedi, plotted against me. I never forgave him. The man died on his bed,” he remarked.
Yograj also claimed that he was dropped due to perceptions of his closeness to Sunil Gavaskar. “Bishan Singh Bedi didn’t want to pick me because they thought I was Gavaskar’s man since I played cricket in Mumbai,” he said, attributing the decision to personal biases.
