Mumbai: In a breakthrough, a joint operation by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force and the Mumbai Police Crime Branch has led to the arrest of a wanted accused linked to the firing incident at filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai.
The accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar alias Gaath, was apprehended from the Chhadami Mattha area on the Agra–Etah road under the Bah police station limits on Thursday afternoon. Officials confirmed that the arrest took place at around 3:56 pm after coordinated tracking and intelligence sharing between the two police units.
According to investigators, the incident dates back to the night of February 1, 2026, when shots were fired outside ‘Shetty Tower’ in the Juhu area of Mumbai. Police allege that the attack was orchestrated to create fear and exert pressure for extortion, with links to the Shubham Lonkar gang.
Authorities said the breakthrough was achieved through sustained technical surveillance and analysis of digital footprints. The operation was carried out under the supervision of senior STF officials in Agra.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused, a resident of Ashok Nagar in Agra, was influenced by online activity associated with the gang, particularly through social media platforms. He is also believed to have acted along with associates in an attempt to assert dominance and gain recognition within criminal networks.
The case has been registered under multiple provisions, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Arms Act, Maharashtra Police Act, and the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA), reflecting the seriousness of the charges.
Officials further stated that several co-accused have already been arrested in earlier phases of the investigation. The latest arrest adds another link in what authorities describe as a coordinated and organised criminal operation.
After completion of formalities, the accused was handed over to Mumbai Police, who will now seek transit remand for further interrogation and legal proceedings.
