Laung Laachi 2 Review
Husband-wife had pretended to be strangers to get to know each other and eventually fall in love in the 2018-release Punjabi movie titled 'Laung Laachi'. The recently released 'Laung Laachi 2' comprises of two strangers pretending to be husband-wife to serve a script which isn't connected to the first part by a lot than just a dialogue.
Laung Laachi 2 puts forward a love story from the time of India's partition in 1947. Meant to be a satirical take on the dreadful and dire phase of Indian history, Laung Laachi 2 isn't guilty of a careless portrayal of harrowing times but is guilty for lack of effective satire much needed for a satirical movie.
Amberdeep Singh, co-writer, director and lead actor, plays the role of a robber who aims to make the most of people forcefully leaving the country. Realizing an opportunity of claiming someone's home as his own, he leaves his poverty-ridden village life to reach a city with his whole family.
It is his encounter with Mariam Khan (Neeru Bajwa) and Karnail Singh Maan (Ammy Virk) in the city which finds him in a complicated state of affairs involving fake identity and true love.
The central part of the movie, which takes into account this aforementioned trio, is its crowing point. Actors, mainly Bajwa and Virk, manage to capture your attention with both their acting and chemistry. Pawan Johal might not have a lot of screen space but even she impresses during her limited portions. There are times costumes (by Roma Sharma) of these characters are questionable considering the year this story is based in but the art work (by Shabana Khanam) is really impressive.
It is in this phase of the movie where the jokes do what they are meant to do. It is here where the confusion becomes entertaining for you to be steadily involved in the movie. It is here where you really wish that the movie takes advantage of a high point in an otherwise bland script.
However, what follows before and after this sequence is what hurts Laung Laachi 2 the most. Too much emphasis on Amberdeep Singh, deficiency of depth in writing and an overall casual treatment to a movie results Laung Laachi 2 getting reduced to a forced sequel.
Laung Laachi 2 will be remembered as a classic case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. Despite the story and screenplay written by Amit Sumit, Khushbir Makna, Amandeep Kaur and Amberdeep Singh himself, the team is still not able to elongate the enjoyable part of the movie. Four writers running out of fuel to create something telling leaves one wanting for more from their overall effort.
It is true that Laung Laachi 2 delivers an overall message of unity and brotherhood even in one of the most unsettling phases in the history of humanity. Amberdeep, who has provided similar messages in the past as well, achieves success in this facet towards the end. A persevered all-round on his part is quite visible for you to see but a shortage of substance surrouding the overall message is a cause of concern for Laung Laachi 2.
