Millions Log On for ‘Stranger Things’ Finale, Netflix Faces Brief Outage

0% Liked

The New Year began with a glitch for fans of Netflix’s Stranger Things as the streaming platform experienced a temporary outage during the premiere of the series’ final episode. The show’s much-anticipated conclusion, “Chapter Eight: The Rightside Up,” went live at midnight on December 31, leading to a surge in viewers that briefly overwhelmed Netflix’s servers.

Some users reported seeing an error message while attempting to play the finale, which read, “Something went wrong. Sorry, we’re having trouble with your request. You'll find lots to explore on the home page.” The issue was short-lived, and streaming resumed for most accounts within minutes.

This incident follows a similar disruption when Volume 1 of season five was released on November 26. Netflix had then confirmed that a brief technical problem affected some users, particularly on TV devices, but service was quickly restored.

Season five of Stranger Things has been released in three parts: Volume 1 in late November, Volume 2 on Christmas Day, and the series finale on New Year’s Eve. In addition to streaming, the finale was also shown in select theatres, giving fans multiple options to watch the conclusion of the Duffer Brothers’ hit series.

Despite the brief outage, fans quickly returned to the platform, eager to see the series’ dramatic conclusion. For many, the finale provided a perfect start to the New Year, combining binge-watching excitement with the thrill of the long-awaited ending.
