Review

2012 Mirza-The Untold Story is the story of two legendary lovers ‘Mirza and Sahiba’ told in a new fashion. It is the story of the Modern day Mirza and how he goes about fighting for his love in order to get it. This is one such film, which is supposed to establish a landmark in the History of Punjabi Cinema.

The story of legendary Mirza-Sahiba is told in this film in the modern day avatar. The film has been written and directed by Baljit Singh Deo who has earlier directed a Punjabi film and also many blockbuster music videos. The story of this film is exciting and brings tremendous freshness in the Punjabi cinema, which was all about laughs and gigs before this film, Dharti being an exception. The film has been brilliantly shot in various parts of Canada and the cinematography is brilliant. Director Bajlit Singh has taken very good care of all the fields of the film.

Singer turned actor Gippy Grewal claimed to have done a tremendous amount of hard work for this role and it really showed in his acting. He has done a tremendous job and carried the film completely on his shoulders both with his acting as well as songs. Mandy Thakkar didn’t seem pretty well, maybe because her dialogues were dubbed. The makers could have thought of another leading lady who could speak proper Punjabi for the role of Sahiba. Rahul Dev was brilliant once again. Comedians Binnu Dhillon and B.N. Sharma also did a fairly good job to make the audiences laugh. Their portions were just to put some comedy scenes in the film; otherwise they did not have any connection to the actual storyline. Yo Yo Honey Singh did a descent job and the audiences in the hall were very much excited whenever he made an appearance in the film. His music is excellent and the album is already a super hit.

Overall, 2012 Mirza is a kind of film, which is new in Punjabi Cinema. Audiences will take time to accept such films, but seeing the collections the people are loving this film. It is a must go if you want to see the new kind of Punjabi Cinema.
