Synopsis: Ambarsariya tells the story of a RAW Agent Jatt Ambarsariya (Diljit Dosanjh) who is assigned a mission of finding the assassin who has been hired to kill the Home Minister because he is against Drugs and Corruption. Jatt Ambarsariya goes under cover as an insurance agent and on his quest comes across various people – Manpreet’s (Ghuggi, Rana, Lauren), Kirat (Monika) and Jasleen (Navneet). Review: Mandeep Kumar made Jihne Mera Dil Lutiya way back in 2011 and since the nobody knows what he’s been upto. Well he’s made a successful Bollywood film and he’s also made various ad films. But now he’s back with Ambarsariya and then he’s got his Kaptaan ready to follow this one in May.
Dheeraj Rattan has been entrusted with writing the Story and Screnplay of this film and he’s written an intesting pot boiler for Mandeep’s return. But what was a great story on paper and mishandled in the screenplay. Dheeraj put a lot of things together for the viewer to take at one time. One second Diljit is an insurance agent and blink the eye and he’s a RAW agent. Who else do I blame? The director – Yes to some extent but mostly the screenplay writer.
Dialogues by Balraj Sayal are witty and humorous but only to some extent. Thank God he doesn’t go overboard with the punches. The dialogues are as good as they last and do not leave a lasting impression in the minds of the viewer.
Coming to Direction, Mandeep Kumar seems to stuck in 2011 itself back in his Jihne Mera Dil Lutiya days. Somebody please tell him that it’s 2016 and so much has changed in Punjabi Cinema after 2011. Frankly, his direction doesn’t impress me much. He hasn’t handled crunch situations well and seemed in some sort of discomfort while directing this one.
He got a buffet of talent in his plate and still couldn’t make a meal out of it. I would call it weak direction. Maybe he was overconfident because people counted him in the greats right after one film. It could even be a beginners luck. Even on the technical part he’s stuck in 2011. We don’t see much use of Zoom lens these days and here only Zoom lens have been used virtually in Every scene. So 1980’s!
Coming to Performces, it’s an Out and out Diljit Dosanjh film. Diljit delivers a hell of a performance (in good sense). He is a gem of an actor. Virtually in every scene of the film and every character revolves around him. Diljit bravely carries the film on his strong shoulders but falls midway apart as he finds no support but he’s an actor every director would love of have. Navneet Dhillon and Monika Gill who made their debuts with this film are probably the finds of the film. Both the actresses get to play the girl next door type characters and which is what you get mostly in your first film and have lesser scenes but perform with ease.
Coming to the supporting cast, there wasn’t much for any supporting character in the film but still people like Rana Ranbir and Gurpreet Ghuggi who are seasoned actors played their parts well. Karamjit Anmol was all right. Rana Jung Bahadur was wasted. Binnu Dhillon was seen in a cameo role in this film which appears from time to time. Gul Panag was her usual. She played the head of RAW in the film.
Music was done by Jatinder Shah (again). The film did not have much of music with just 2 songs in the screenplay which were also forceful. I mean there wasn’t any need for those 2 as well. 2 songs in a film which is produced by a music company with a singer like Diljit in the lead came as a bit of a surprise. But even those 2 songs don’t have much to do in the long run. Pagg Wala Munda is all right and Ju Think is just another random song.
Overall, Ambarsariya came as a promising film when it was announced. But promises are not always meant to be kept. Diljit delivers but does not find support. Pretty much like Sachin of Indian Team in the 90’s. It can be avoided but if you are a fan of Diljit then you might as well enjoy his performance.
