Synopsis: Bikkar Bai Senti Mental tells a scenario where social evils become more rampant and time comes where a common man, Bikram Singh (Jasraj) turns into a fighter, protector Bikkar Bai. Bikram is a normal middle class family man living with his daughter and wife, Jeeti (Jhangiani) and certain situations force him to go violent against the corrupt system of the country be it schools, politics, police department or anything else. Bikkar brings a new revolution called as ‘Paava Revolution’.
Script Analysis: Baljinder S. Mahant has written the story of this film. Speaking about the story, the film has an interesting and never told before concept in Punjabi Cinema. The concept is nice and the idea sounds great on paper. But what flatters is the screenplay, which has made a complete mess of the brilliant idea.
It had a lot of unwanted sequences, which meant that the film was being dragged forcefully for reasons best known to the makers. The complete side-plot of Rana Ranbir was unwanted. Dialogues were expected to be good, since the film was an action drama but they were just about all right and lacked the punches.
Direction and Music: Gautam Nagrath who makes his directorial debut with this one hasn’t done a convincing job. He as a director left many areas vacant which were to be taken care of and the film seems to be slipping out of his hands at the half time but thanks to some performances which save the film in the second half.
Music of Bikkar Bai has nothing good and new to offer except for Fan Bhagat Singh da by Diljit Dosanjh that is the best track of the album but sadly arrives in the end. Also Jatt Senti by Jasraj is good but not a chartbuster.
Star Performancs: Bikkar Bai continues the same trend of singers turning into actors. But one thing a singer doesn’t understand that every singer cannot act just like every actor cannot sing. Jassi Jasraj is a completely gone wrong choice for the role of Bikkar. He wasn’t convincing at all in his first film. If he needs to work more as an actor he needs to work hard drastically on his acting. Preeti Jhangiani, doing her 2nd Punjabi film was also not up to the mark in her small role. She struggled a lot in her Punjabi. One emotional dialogue, which she had in her film, was very cleverly spoken in English so that her Punjabi doesn’t struggle.
The saviors in the acting department were Shabaaz Khan, Sardar Sohi and Bobby Sandhu. Shabaaz was perfect as the honest ACP. Sardar Sohi was equally convincing as the MLA. But sadly they both enter after the interval when the milk was already split. Bobby Sandhu can act as well. He played a Haryanvi Inspector and was good with his dialogues. Kamal Preet was convincing. Rana Ranbir was wasted. Not because he acted badly, but because he had a parallel track which had no connection to the original story.
Final Say: Overall, Bikkar Bai Senti Mental is a nice idea on paper but gone wrong in its filming and screenplay. Also the lead pair isn’t convincing. Music also doesn’t offer much. Such a film can be skipped without giving a second thought.
