Director Smeep Kang is back with another comedy, Double Di Trouble, featuring Bollywood veteran Dharmendra and Punjabi star Gippy Grewal. Based on Shakespeare’s play “Comedy of Errors”, the movie is first Punjabi project of Subash Ghai’s Mukta Arts.
After laughing our hearts out in Carry on Jatta, we missed the same charisma of Smeep Kang in Lucky Di Unlucky Story and Bhaji in Problem, but as we said before, he is back!
Double Di Trouble is the story of two father son duos, which are twins but are unaware of each other’s whereabouts (or even existence). And when they accidentally get into each other’s life, their mistaken identities bring utter confusion and humour.

The very foundation of the movie, “twins who get separated, are childless and both adopt a son, who again happen to be twins” is something very hard to believe, but the director has cleverly walked his way out of this by raising the same question and later calling it Shakespeare’s imagination in the very start of the movie.
It’s a short 110 minutes movie. The screenplay is smooth and Naresh Kathooria and Manoj Sabharwal have used their wit wisely while writing the dialogues.
Apart from Dharmindera and Gippy, the movie also features Gurpreet Ghuggi, Poonam Dhillon, Kulraj Randhawa and Minissha Lamba among others. Also there is a special appearance of Jazzy B. For Dharmendra, it’s a delight to see such a great actor to finally do a movie in his mother tongue and Gippy has fully supported him. Ghuggi is spontaneous and an evergreen actor. Poonam, Kulraj and Minissha have executed their roles well. BN Sharma and Karamjit Anmol are both ace comedians and do produce some real comical moments. Acting wise they all have done a good job.
They say good things come in small packages, and for me it was was Naresh Kathooria. He had a small role but he does impress you with it. He keeps you captive and is real funny.
In music, Aisi Mulaqat Ho by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan is a soothing romantic song and 26 Ban Gayi by Gippy and Jazzy B a peppy number. A total of 5 Music Directors have given music to the six songs of the movie. Hearing this, your expectations rocket high but the end product does disappoint. Overall music here is an average affair.
Also there is an action sequence in the very start of the movie, which I feel was unnecessary. Gippy Grewal makes a stylish entry by jumping from a building onto the roof of a car smashing the window glasses. But the action which follows after this scene is bizarre. It’s a short action sequence still at some scenes you feel the laws of physics are defied and at some the camera placement could have been better.
Smeep Kang tried to recreate the typical Dharmindera by introducing him into the action sequence as well, but he should have had understood the fact that with age you lose your vigorousness. No disrespect, but Dharmindera’s fighting scene did look sham. Also the technical front was not great either. The sound mixing was fairly poor. The lip-synching for Dharmendra was completely out of sync for most of the scenes.
Overall, Double Di Trouble has a huge humour element which outshines all its flaws. It is a situational comedy which keeps you captive till the very end. Punjabi Mania recommends watching this movie.
