Review: Laavan Phere, marks Director Smeep Kang’s return to direction after a year and a half. And he has another 2-3 films which might release this year. The film also sees the new pair of Roshan Prince and Rubina Bajwa on screen for the 1st time. Singer/Actor/Comedian Karamjit Anmol also turns Producer for the 1st time in his career with this film. And he has a platter full of support cast in the film, like it is in most of Smeep Kang’s films.

Written by Pali Bhupinder Singh, who does not have a hit to his credit all this while, Laavan Phere comes as a surprise package from the writer of films like Lock and Main Teri Tu Mera. Laavan Phere’s story-screenplay-dialogues have all been penned by Pali Bupinder Singh and to be fair, he has done a good job this time around. The film is pacy, packs a lot of punches and laughter which is all natural and not at all forced and most importantly its all clean humour, no double meaning jokes at all here.  The screenplay in such films does not matter much as it is mostly the situations which matter.

However, there were a few characters which seem to be irritating right from their 1st scene. For instance, Preeto Sawhney’s character was a total waste for the film. She had no impact whatsoever on the film and could have been done away with. Harby Sangha entered the fray quite late and thus his character lacked the meat. However, these are very small small things and can be ignored. The film is clean, well written and is enjoyable.

Coming to Smeep Kang’s Direction, he has done what he does best, ‘Drawing Room Comedy’. I mean you are in Mauritius and still shooting within the houses and backyards and drawing rooms does not justify the film being shot at foreign locations for quite many days. However, he has done a good job at direction but I still feel that if they shot at foreign locations, they could have easily explored some scenic locations to shoot.

Roshan Prince delivers a sincere performance yet again. He is now slowly moving towards brilliance in terms of acting performances. He is clear with his expressions and is superb with his punches and comic timing. Rubina Bajwa, on the other hand should establish herself with this performance. She managed to hold her own in this film full of mind-blowing actors. Karamjit Anmol delivers one hell of a good performance as Thekedaar Nachattar Singh.

Gurpreet Ghuggi was also equally good in the film. But I cannot say the same about Harby Sangha. I felt that he was under-utilised in the film. Other supporting actors in the film like B N Sharma, Raghveer Boli, Nisha Bano, Akshita Sharma, Dilraj Uday, Malkeet Rauni and many other were all between good to average.

In terms of music, Parauhne by Ranjit Bawa is a Blockbuster all over the charts, the title track is decent and Gippy Grewal track, 28 Kille was pretty good.

Good Performances, Some clean comedy and some really good performances sure make this film a worth watch. Overall, Laavan Phere is you ideal family film to watch out this week. Go out with the family and have a blast.
