Review: Director Simerjit Singh, who has delivered some comic capers in the past like Daddy Cool Munde Fool, Angrej, Nikka Zaildar is back again with Nikka Zaildar 2 within 358 days from the release of the previous film, i.e. Less than a year’s time. Jagdeep Sidhu is back again as the writer for this Simerjit Singh directorial and the majority of the cast returns with some new additions like Wamiqa Gabbi, Prakash Gadhu, Rana Ranbir, Anita Devgan, Sardar Sohi & many more.
Coming to the story firstly, the film starts off well and delivers what it is meant to do – Laughter. The story is well written with some crunch moments handled well in both the 1st and 2nd half. The screenplay is neat, crisp and does not bore the viewer. The dialogues are fresh, funny and serve the purpose well enough.
Coming to direction, Simerjit Singh is a master when it comes to handling comedy films by now. This is his 4th Comedy film and 3rd in a row so he knows what it takes to deliver a fun filled entertainer and does a good job at that. Also the costumes and sets were very well done given the film was set in the Late 80’s Era.
Performances is what Nikka Zaildar 2 make a strong film. Ammy Virk delivers yet again as Nikka. He has control over his emotions and plays a subtle character who is not very loud and is very different from some of Ammy’s earlier work and we all know he delivers his best when he is being directed by Simerjit Singh. And Sonam Bajwa delivers a ‘Career-Best’ performance in the form of Roop Kaur. The character was of a simple girl next door but it was Sonam’s expressions and that soft/lovable tone in which she spoke the dialogues was the highlight of the character. I can now say that Sonam Bajwa – The Actress has arrived!
Wamiqa Gabbi had by far the best character to play in this film out of all her Punjabi Films before. (By the way she was superb in her last release, A Malayalam film, Godha which I happened to saw in a theatre.) Wamiqa does a good job here as well. Hoping to see her in more of Punjabi films soon. Coming to supporting cast, Nirmal Rishi yet again delivers as Bebe, however her screen time was less this time around than the last film. But she delivered a good performance. Yet another great performance came from Sardar Sohi who was brilliant in this film with his comic timing. Rana Ranbir and Prakash Gadhu were in top notch as well. They all are versatile actors – Sardar Sohi, Nirmal Rishi, Rana Ranbir, Prakash Gadhu.
One character who has a small role but still I will remember him was Chamkaur Singh which was effectively played by Baninderjit Singh Bunny, remember this name as you will hear it many more times in future in Punjabi films. Gurmeet Sajan also delivered a good performance and so did Gupreet Bhangu & many others in the support cast.
Music was composed by Gurmeet Singh. It is good to see Gurmeet Singh back in mainstream Punjabi Cinema composing music after a good gap. Tracks like Kali Jota and Mehndi (Veet Baljit Version) are my picks from the album followed by Gani and the title track sung yet again by Karamjit Anmol, like the last film.
Overall, Nikka Zaildar 2 is completely different from it’s prequel but it is yet again an enjoyable ride to be enjoyed together with the whole family.
