Synopsis:

The story is set in Punjab with Prem Chopra as the Power minister of the state and Rajesh Puri as the power corporation CMD. Jaspal Bhatti the ace satirist of India and Jaswinder Bhalla who is top comedian of Punjabi Cinema play the village jesters (Bhands) who make fun of the electrical and political system throughout the film.

Script Analysis:

Whenever there’s a power cut, political or electrical, much sparks are seen flying in the heated discussion of the public who grapple around in the dark. To turn these sparks in guffaws of laughter Jaspal Bhatti has churned out a romantic comedy with the back drop of power cuts and shortage of power in most parts of India.

Power Cut was claimed to be a comic caper before its release, but in the film the romantic triangle between the debutants has also been given equal importance. The romantic portion was just about good but the comic portion out did everything. The screenplay and dialogues were written by Jaspal Bhatti and were perfect.

Screenplay got a bit slower in the second half but seeing the length it was bearable. But the dialogues were near to perfection, especially the ones written for Bhatti and Bhalla. They share a good on-screen chemistry. Reminded me of their antics from the epic comedy film, Jijaji.

Star Performances:

Jaspal Bhatti, delivers a power packed performance here in Power Cut which unfortunately happens to be his last on-screen outing. He hasn’t disappointed anyone here and his scenes with Bhalla were a treat to watch.

Jaswinder Bhalla and B.N. Sharma have made a world of their own in this Punjabi Industry. As I have written earlier and writing it again, they are setting higher standards for themselves film after film in the comedy.

Debutants Jasraj Bhatti, Surilie and Zafar Khan were presented well. They performed well barring Surilie, who needs to polish her acting skills if she is here to stay for long. The likes of Savita Bhatti, Harpal Singh and veteran Prem Chopra provided good support.

Direction and Music:

Jaspal Bhatti always mentions Direction as Misdirection but like always he was perfect and hasn’t missed anything. He did a good job in all the departments in his last film.

Gurmeet Singh who has also done a good job here composed music here. Songs like Power Cut sung by Mika, Ghutt Chara Key by Lehmber and Gal Dil da Dard by Saleem were good.

Final Say:

Power Cut is the last chance to watch Jaspal Bhatti doing the jubilee stuff, which he is doing for years. So for this reason Power Cut becomes a must watch movie for each and everyone.
