Synopsis: Daler (Neetu Pandher) and Taari (Ravinder Singh Pawar) are real brothers and get separated once their mother dies. Soon after that, both the brothers get married and their children are born. Taari is a hardworking farmer whereas Daler takes life easy and as it comes. And soon this trait of their lifestyle starts reflecting in their children and they develop likewise habits. This is what forms the main plot line of the film and the rest follows.

Review: Saggi Phull written by Miyan Bakhtawar and Directed by Shivtar Shiv reflects the society of today where two brothers have different lifestyles and get separated and one who is hardworking leads a happy life after initial hurdles where as the one who takes life easy realises all the hardships once the water has crossed the bridge. Saggi Phull serves as an eye opener to the rule realities of the modern society.

Written by Miyan Bakhtawar, the story is very predictable yet one can relate it to some one who we know or something which we have seen or heard in the society around us. That is how relatable the film is. Miyan Bakhtawar wants to tell a lot of things in just about 117 minutes narrative. Thus, there are a lot of fast moving tracks, multiple characters and what not. But it is the screenplay where the problem lies. Though the story might be relatable but the screenplay has far too many things to tell and that is not how films are made.

Various characters come and go and it takes a while for the viewer to adjust through the narrative. The things are rushed in both the halves and a tighter grip on the screenplay would have gone a long way to help writers cause of telling a fresh story which is actually very different from the league.

Directed by Shivtar Shiv, who has various films to his credit as DOP makes his debut as a Director with Saggi Phull. Here he is also the DOP in this film. Shivtar got a very good story to tell but the screenplay did not help his case either. The film though is engaging and manages to hold the attention of the viewer for various portions but the attention again keeps on dwindling in some portions. Shivtar Shiv showed shades of a fine storyteller in various portions. But talking about the camerawork, may be due to the low budget the film was shot on smaller cameras and that showed on screen in the grains that were visible on screen due to poor lighting and non-cinematic cameras.

Coming to performances, Saggi Phull had many new or unknown faces in the cast. But to be honest, almost all of them have been impressive in their work as actors. Ravinder Singh Pawar as Taari delivered a great performance and this level of performance might land up supporting roles in bigger films. Sukhi Bal as Pali also did a great job. She looks beautiful and can act as well. Simranjeet Kaur as Jeeta also played her part well.

Neetu Pandher has been seen in smaller roles in many films but here gets to play Parallel Lead and does a fine job. What I couldn’t understand  was that there were some known faces in the film like Shivendar Mahal, Gurpreet Bhangu, Prakash Gadhu but they were all restricted to smaller roles and their roles did not leave much of an impact on the film. But overall, the artists played their roles well.

Music in the film has been composed by Daljit Singh. His music composition deserves a mention. The music album has names like Ninja, Nooran Sisters and Jaspinder Narula. Tracks like Mela and Doli are worthy of listening.

Overall, Saggi Phull has a different and nice and relatable story to tell and can be watched for the story and also the star cast delivers some wonderful performances but the screenplay plays spoilsport. However, Saggi Phull is watchable.
