Music Albums of 2013

There are many film songs, which became huge hits in 2013 but unfortunately none of the films had complete music albums where almost all the songs were a Hit. Only a few films had a musical score, which could be termed as a complete music album. The definition of a complete music album is not this – 1 Romantic Song, 1 Sad Song, 2 Dance numbers, 1 Item Song, 1 Qawalli here & there backed by 2-3 remix tracks and to add there is a also Mashup these days. But instead a complete music album means a score, which has some merits in it to be able to sustain itself over many years to come. Music Albums of films like Mel Karade Rabba, Dil Apna Punjabi, 2012 Mirza – The Untold Story are some recent examples of a Complete Music Album.

Daddy Cool Munde Fool (Dr. Zeus)

Daddy Cool Munde Fool might have received mixed response from the audience for the film, but the music of the film was an instant hit and has been able to sustain itself till now. The tracks like Tauba Tauba and Rattan Chittian by Bilal Saeed were the highlights of the album backed up by some foot tapping numbers like Lagda Na Jee with the Vocals of Amrinder Gill and Classmate by Jassi Gill and Female version by Amar Noorie and to add more the remix had the voice of the new sensation Kaur B. Also the album had a Mashup, which was not that good but was still all right.

Jatt & Juliet 2 (Jatinder Shah, Jassi Katyal for Akhiyan)

Jatt & Juliet 2 – This is what I call a complete music album. The tracks like Punjab Police and Shoulder became instant hits because of the peppiness they had in them and even today they are among every DJ’s favorites at the big-fat Punjabi weddings. These tracks were backed up by tracks like Naina in the voices of Sukhwinder Singh and Kamal Khan, Buggi and Mr- Singh by Diljit Dosanjh himself and Akhiyan by debutante Amber Vashisht, which is my personal favorite from this album.

 Haani (Jaidev Kumar)

The combo of Harbhajan Maan and Jaidev Kumar has always offered the audience some with some melodies and one expected the same from Haani given that the film belonged to the romantic genre. With the vocals of Harbhajan Maan, Dev Nagi, Sarabjit Cheema and Shaukat Ali this year easily belonged to the melodious music of Haani. The album begins with Heer Saleti in the voice of Harbhajan Maan and has tracks like Taang Sajna Di and Teri Meri Jodi in the voices of Harbhajan Maan and 2nd versions by Shaukat Ali and Dev Nagi respectively, which add a cherry on top. Jagga by Cheema also added energy and Jaago by Manpreet Akhtar reminded me of the 80’s and 90’s traditional Indian weddings.

Other albums that could have made it to the list had there been more than 1-2 complete songs were Ishq Garaari, Singh V/s Kaur, Heer & Hero and Best of Luck.
