Bollywood actress Neetu Chandra has filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) in the Patna High Court against singer Honey Singh’s latest song, Maniac, alleging indecency and objectification of women. The song, featuring actress Esha Gupta, was released on YouTube recently and has already amassed over seven million views in a month.
Legal Action and Allegations
Neetu Chandra claims that Maniac promotes vulgarity and reduces women to mere sexual objects. In her petition, she has demanded that the court order a revision of the song’s lyrics to make them more appropriate. The PIL not only names Honey Singh but also holds accountable others involved in the song’s production, including lyricist Leo Grewal, Bhojpuri singer Ragini Vishwakarma, and Arjun Ajnabee.
Chandra has further alleged that the song misuses the Bhojpuri language in an attempt to mask its vulgarity. According to her, the lyrics ridicule women’s empowerment and contribute to the growing trend of misogynistic content in the entertainment industry.
Court Proceedings and Expected Hearing
The Patna High Court is likely to hear the PIL later this month. If the court finds merit in the allegations, it could direct the creators to modify the lyrics or take down the song altogether. This is not the first time Honey Singh has faced legal trouble for his lyrics, as his songs have previously been criticized for promoting obscene content.
