Nick Jonas has revisited one of the most difficult chapters of his life, opening up about the fragile and uncertain moments following the premature birth of his daughter, Malti Marie, in early 2022.

During a recent conversation on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast, the singer spoke at length about the emotional shock he and his wife, actor-producer Priyanka Chopra Jonas, experienced when they were told their baby would be arriving months ahead of schedule. The couple had been preparing for a spring delivery, but circumstances shifted suddenly, leaving little time to process what lay ahead.

Malti was born weighing just under two pounds and was immediately rushed into intensive care. Jonas recalled the panic of seeing his newborn struggle moments after birth, noting that doctors and nurses stepped in swiftly to stabilise her. He described the neonatal team as lifesavers who acted with precision and urgency when every second counted.

The months that followed were spent largely inside the neonatal intensive care unit, a period Jonas described as emotionally exhausting yet grounding. Because the birth occurred during the height of the pandemic, hospital access was limited, and the couple took turns spending long hours by Malti’s side. For nearly three and a half months, their lives revolved around monitors, medical updates and small victories as their daughter slowly grew stronger.

During her time in care, Malti required multiple blood transfusions and constant monitoring. Jonas said the experience heightened his awareness of other families navigating similar struggles, creating a quiet sense of shared resilience within the unit.

Eventually, the day came when Malti was strong enough to leave the hospital. Jonas said that milestone felt surreal after weeks of uncertainty. Now a healthy toddler, she is doing well, and Jonas reflected that her difficult beginning has reshaped how he views life, time and gratitude.

Priyanka Chopra Jonas has previously spoken about the same period, describing the fear of watching doctors intubate a baby who was born nearly a trimester early. She has said the experience left a lasting impact on how the family values togetherness and simplicity.

In recent interviews, Chopra Jonas has shared that their favourite moments are no longer grand celebrations but quiet rituals at home, particularly unhurried mornings spent together as a family.

Professionally, Chopra Jonas is gearing up for major projects ahead. She will star opposite Mahesh Babu in filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s upcoming venture Varanasi, expected to release during Sankranti 2027, and will also appear in The Bluff, a historical film set in the Caribbean, scheduled for release on February 25.

For Jonas, however, the most meaningful role remains at home — as a father who witnessed his child fight for life from her very first breath.
