Simi Chahal and Mandy Takhar are back in the same Punjabi film cast nine years after Rabb Da Radio. Their reunion in Tutt Paini English Ne, currently listed for a September 25 release, comes with a useful twist: family pressure is again part of the story, but it now enters through language, ambition and cultural status rather than a romance divided by economic background.

The connection gives the new casting more meaning than a familiar-name roll call. It also shows how Punjabi cinema can revisit the family as a source of conflict without repeating the same characters or story. This is a career reunion, not a sequel link.

Rabb Da Radio made romance answer to the family

Released in 2017, Rabb Da Radio stars Tarsem Jassar, Simi Chahal and Mandy Takhar. Its central couple come from sharply different economic backgrounds and try to protect their developing relationship as pressure from the family grows around them.

That conflict gives the earlier film a clear emotional line: private affection has to survive public divisions of class and circumstance. Chahal and Takhar’s shared credit belongs to that wider family drama, but it does not establish that their roles mirrored one another or that their new film will recreate their earlier dynamic.

The distinction matters because a reunion can easily be sold as nostalgia alone. Here, the more interesting connection is structural. Both films place the family under strain, yet they locate the source of that strain in different parts of Punjabi social life.

Tutt Paini English Ne changes the pressure point

Tutt Paini English Ne is framed as a comedy and family drama about language, cultural pride, changing lifestyles and modern aspiration. English is more than a means of communication in that setup. It can become a marker of confidence, advancement or status—and therefore a source of misunderstanding within the home.

Chahal and Takhar are listed in the cast alongside Satvinder Singh and Anjum Batra. Their presence reconnects the new film to Rabb Da Radio at the level of casting, while the premise moves from an economically divided romance to a broader household argument over identity and expectation.

For another Punjabi-cinema treatment of that theme, Punjabi Mania’s archive feature on Uda Aida explores how English-medium ambition became a test for an entire family.

Chahal and Takhar’s return is therefore most appealing as a contrast, not a promise of repetition. In 2017, the family pressure gathered around who could be together. In 2026, the advertised tension asks what happens when the language associated with getting ahead starts rearranging expectations at home.
