Punjabi film actor Binnu Dhillon has pointed to the growing dominance of OTT platforms as a major factor behind the declining number of films being produced in the Punjabi film industry.

Speaking in a recent interview with Punjabi Mania, the actor agreed to the fact that before 2020, the industry used to produce nearly 50 films annually. However, the numbers have dropped significantly, with only around 30 to 35 films expected to be released in 2026.

Dhillon explained that the convenience offered by OTT platforms has reshaped audience behaviour. He highlighted how watching films in cinemas requires viewers to stay for the entire duration, whereas digital platforms allow them to pause, resume, and watch content at their own pace. This flexibility, he said, has made OTT viewing more appealing to many.

He further added that audiences have increasingly developed a tendency to wait for films to arrive on streaming platforms rather than watching them in theatres. Since most movies become available online shortly after their theatrical run, many viewers prefer to watch them from the comfort of their homes.

The actor’s remarks reflect broader changes in the entertainment industry, where digital platforms continue to reshape how films are consumed and produced.

Meanwhile, Dhillon is preparing for the release of his upcoming film Khushkhabri, which is scheduled to hit theatres on April 17, 2026. He also shared that if the film performs well at the box office, he plans to work on a sequel, promising more entertainment for his fans.
