Indian diaspora members and social media users have slammed Pakistani actors Hania Aamir and Mahira Khan after the two celebrities voiced criticism of India's recently launched Operation Sindoor. The Indian military operation, which targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-Occupied Kashmir (PoK), was carried out in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 civilian lives, mostly tourists.
While Indian users are unable to directly access the social media profiles of several Pakistani celebrities due to restrictions imposed following the Pahalgam attack, screenshots of Hania Aamir and Mahira Khan’s posts have gone viral on Twitter, particularly among Non-Resident Indians (NRIs). In the posts, both actors reportedly labeled the operation as "cowardly."
This sparked outrage among NRI users who questioned the silence of these actors during the Pahalgam massacre, in which victims were allegedly asked their religion before being executed. A widely circulated tweet responded: "Where were you when 26 innocent people were murdered for not being Muslim? Now you call our army cowardly? Shameful."
Another user wrote, “Operation Sindoor is a message to those who think India won’t act. Pakistani celebrities can’t have it both ways—aspiring to work in Bollywood while ignoring terrorism back home.”
In addition to Hania and Mahira, actors Fawad Khan and Mawra Hocane were also reportedly critical of the Indian strike. Indian netizens are now calling for a permanent ban on Pakistani entertainers in Indian media, with many expressing support for the government’s decision to block such accounts.
