Punjabi cinema is set to welcome a new family entertainer with Patakka Guddiyan, an upcoming film from Ishanya Studios that brings together family drama, humour, emotions and the unusual story of identical twin sisters.
The film has a deeply personal story behind its making. Real-life sisters Dr. Mandeep Kaur and Komaljit Kaur Gill took the project forward with the intention of fulfilling their father’s long-cherished wish of seeing a meaningful and entertaining concept reach Punjabi audiences. What started as a family promise eventually developed into a full-fledged cinematic project.
At the heart of Patakka Guddiyan are twins Roohi and Mahi, played by Hashneen Chauhan. Although the sisters share the same face, their personalities are poles apart. One is composed while the other is short-tempered; one approaches situations with calmness, while the other brings an entirely different energy to the same circumstances.
This striking contrast forms the basis of the film's narrative. As the two characters navigate life under the same roof, their differences create a series of situations involving family relationships, celebrations, misunderstandings, humour and emotional moments. Rather than simply using the twin concept for comedy, the film also looks at how individuality can exist even between people who appear identical.
Patakka Guddiyan has been directed by Dr. Mandeep Kaur and Lovejinder Singh Johal, while cinematographers Rupinder Rupi and Arvind Singh have handled the visual storytelling across the film's schedules.
The production itself involved an extensive filming process, with the team completing two major schedules along with a smaller schedule. The result was nearly four hours of recorded footage, which then had to be shaped into a feature film of approximately two hours.
Editor Rohit Dhiman took charge of the challenging post-production process, trimming and restructuring the footage to maintain the pace of the story while retaining its comic and emotional moments. The film's post-production work was completed at Trisha Studios.
The movie also features a sizeable ensemble cast, bringing together several familiar names from Punjabi cinema and the wider Indian entertainment industry. Along with Hashneen Chauhan, the cast includes Malkit Rauni, Tarsem Paul, Anita Meet, Upasana Singh, Sanju Solanki, Pranav Vashisht, Anshul Bhammi, Kulvir Soni, Deepak Niaz, Malkit Gill, Parminder Gill, Harpreet Kaur and Puneet.
With its central twin-sister premise and a story built around the chaos and warmth of a Punjabi family, Patakka Guddiyan aims to combine comedy and emotion with a strong family-oriented narrative.
More significantly, the film carries a personal story beyond its screen characters. A father's wish became the starting point for two sisters, and that personal dream has now taken the shape of a feature film involving an entire team of actors and technicians.
Patakka Guddiyan is scheduled to release worldwide in cinemas on October 30, 2026.
