In a notable crossover of pop culture and politics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has followed popular Punjabi singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter). The move has caught the attention of both fans and political observers.
This development comes months after the two met in person earlier this year, during an event in Mumbai where PM Modi interacted with several artists from the Indian entertainment industry. Diljit, who is known for keeping a relatively neutral stance on political matters, had shared a respectful photo from the meeting that had gone viral.
Fans of the actor-singer are celebrating the gesture, calling it a rare and welcome recognition of Punjabi cinema and music on a national stage. Social media is abuzz with reactions ranging from curiosity to admiration, with hashtags like #ModiFollowsDiljit trending across platforms.
Political analysts see the move as a symbolic outreach to younger demographics and regional cultural icons ahead of upcoming elections, especially in northern states like Punjab.
