A police investigation has been initiated after noted Punjabi singer and film artiste Amar Noori reported receiving a death threat linked to her son’s involvement in the music industry, officials said on Tuesday.
According to preliminary information, Noori received a phone call from an unknown number in which the caller allegedly identified himself as “Inspector Gurmeet Singh.” During the call, the person reportedly warned her that her son should immediately discontinue his singing career, failing which the family would face serious consequences.
Disturbed by the threat, the singer approached the local police and submitted a written complaint. Based on her statement, a case has been registered against an unidentified individual, and efforts are underway to trace the caller.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Mohit Singla confirmed that investigators are analysing call detail records and attempting to identify the location from which the call was made. He said police are also examining whether the caller was impersonating a law enforcement officer to intimidate the family.
“Necessary technical checks are being carried out, and appropriate action will follow once the caller’s identity is established,” the DSP said.
Police officials added that the matter is being taken seriously and assured that security concerns raised by the singer will be addressed as the investigation progresses.
