Punjabi artists on social media in 2020: Punjabi celebrities' tryst with social media platforms increased to another level in 2020.
In a year which was onlooker to only 11 new Punjabi movies when a record number was expected, Punjabi celebrities were seen shifting focus towards social media platforms to entertain their fans.
The entertainment, which was good enough to last throughout the year, had primarily begun as an aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic which had forced celebrities to be inside their homes especially for the first two months or so.
While some of our artists made the most out of spending time with their families, the others didn't only learn new things for themselves but shared the wisdom with their fans as well.

Gippy Grewal
Desi Rockstar Gippy Grewal, who has successfully experimented with respect to donning multiple hats in the last five years or so, was seen spending quality time with his family during the lockdown. Grewal, who was with his family in Mohali when lockdown began earlier this year, didn't shy away from introducing his kids to his fans via a plethora of social media posts.
Not among the ones who chose to blanket their personal lives, Grewal's fun-time with his kids went to the extent that he ended up making a new Instagram handle named @humblekids_. From TikTok videos to late-night visits to his kids' room, Grewal didn't appear to hide much from his bountiful fans.
Diljit Dosanjh
Unlike Grewal, superstar Diljit Dosanjh was away from his family when the lockdown had commenced. Having said that, the same didn't mean that Dosanjh didn't interact with his fans.
An amateur cook himself, Dosanjh took the isolation as a challenge to hone his cooking skills in the company of his plentiful fans. The summer season was full of Dosanjh trying out new recipes and posting videos of the same on his social media handles.
Dosanjh, who has a thing for being funny, also provided his fans with live commentary while cooking various dishes and it wouldn't be wrong to say that the same proved as icing on the cake.

Sonam Bajwa
If killing her fans with looks across her social media profiles wasn't enough for actress Sonam Bajwa, she uploaded multiple posts with her pet Simba to take her social media game to the next level this year. Presumably in Mumbai for most part of the lockdown, Bajwa never left an opportunity of posting adorable pictures and videos with Simba go waste.
Ammy Virk
Appearing to follow the footsteps of her 'Nikka Zaildar' and 'Muklawa' co-star Bajwa, singer-turned-actor Ammy Virk also introduced his pet Burfi Virk to his fans - even dedicating an Instagram handle and a music label to the same name.
That being said, Virk was more popular across social media platforms for his music covers of old Punjabi songs this year. Virk, who was fortunate enough to be spending the lockdown among the likes of video director Arvindr Khaira and music director Avvy Sra, made optimum use of a super-talented company.

What followed was Virk frequently recreating many super-hit old songs to entertain his fans.
Kartar Cheema
Actor Kartar Cheema, who is known for his well built physique across the globe in addition to his acting, made it a point to pass on the fitness lessons to his fans and anyone who aspires to workout especially without much equipment in villages.
Speaking in an interview with Punjabi Mania around his newly-launched YouTube channel in June this year, Cheema had laid emphasis on giving back to his fans in the form of expertise on correct exercises and posture, solving their diet-related queries and so on.
“Even before becoming an actor, I always had this ambition of becoming a fitness model. Now that I’m an actor as well and people follow me because of my physique, I believe it is my duty to give them something in return,” Cheema was quoted as saying.

“I don’t intend to benefit monetarily from this channel but it’s just that I receive a lot of fitness-related queries and this channel can become a sole platform for people to get answers to their questions. I want to add that I will be primarily speaking in Punjabi [in the videos] so that someone sitting in a remote village also connects to it,” Cheema said.
