Punjabi artists return to music albums: The unscheduled and extended break has seen Punjabi artists announce the uncommon contemporary practice of music albums.

Punjabi artists seem to be following the age-old but fruitful perspective of finding positives whilst being in a dreadful situation. Considering the impact which the novel COVID-19 outbreak has generated around the world, it sure is the most dreadful situation which our generation has come across.

In times of social distancing and with shootings getting prohibited, there was little or no chance to (ideally) make music videos. However, some Punjabi artists doing the same not only entertained their fans but also provided lessons to the whole industry.

One can't deny the fact that we are a generation which watches music instead of listening to it. The habit is primarily responsible for singer to prefer single tracks over music albums for creating eight music videos for an album is unequivocally a daunting task.

Another reason why we see less music albums these days is that most of the leading singers are also established names across departments in the film industry. The frantic nature of scheduling due to movies rarely gives a singer time to work on a full-fledged music album.

Arguably the biggest positive of the COVID-19 lockdown was that it provided time to each one of us including Punjabi artists. Making optimum use of the (unprecedented) time, many illustrious names ended up announcing their upcoming music albums.

Diljit Dosanjh

Despite working actively in both Hindi and Punjabi films, Diljit Dosanjh seems to have made it a point to not make his fans feel devoid of his singing skills. The singer-turned-actor, whose next Punjabi movie titled 'Jodi' would have been up for release tomorrow had it not been for the COVID-19 outbreak, looks set to release another album.

Upcoming album - G.O.A.T.

Last album - Roar (2018)

Last single track - Stranger (2020)

Having tried his hands successfully across divisions in the entertainment industry, Gippy Grewal continued to release single tracks during the lockdown. From bringing together a dozen artists in 'Nach Nach' to releasing an extravagant music video shot in Havana in 'Vigad Gaya', Grewal released as many as four songs in the months of April and May.

Grewal, who hadn't released a single track for 385 days till 'Khatarnaak' released in December last year, appears to have worked passionately to ensure that such a gap doesn't occur again. It is worth mentioning that Grewal's album will also be lyricist-turned-singer-turned-actor Amrit Maan's first full album as a lyricist.
