Film Distributor Munish Sahni: The celebrated personality has been successful in increasing the reach of Punjabi movies for years now.
Film distribution is a humongous department in the film industry ensuring that a filmmaker’s hard work and toil gets its due recognition. Punjabi films are breaking the borders of regional cinema and are reaching among the national and international audiences. One name that has made sure that Punjabi cinema is a rage across continents is Munish Sahni. He has laid the foundation of changing the scenario of the industry by entertaining the global audience. And now he is all set with his next release ‘Uda Aida’.
Sahni, under his banner of Omjee Group, designs, produces and distributes more than 25 to 30 Punjabi films every year. With more than a decade in the industry, he has worked in both Punjabi films and Bollywood and has released more than 300 films across languages.
He has the (production and) distribution of some of the most successful Punjabi films to his credit, including ‘Mr & Mrs 420’ series, ‘Lahoriye’, ‘Bambukat’, ‘Angrej’, ‘Nikka Zaildar’, ‘Naughty Jatts’, ‘Sajjan Singh Rangroot’, ‘Vadhayiyaan Ji Vadhayiaan’ etc.
Omjee Group mostly collaborates with the stories that are a wholesome package of entertainment: drama, romance, comedy and a relevant message. There is hardly any Punjabi project that does not have Omjee Group as its worldwide distributor.
This year, he is ready to continue his success streak with ‘Uda Aida’ that stars Tarsem Jassar and Neeru Bajwa in the lead roles. It is written by Naresh Kathooria and directed by Ksshitij Chaudhary. The film is produced by Friday Russh Motion Pictures and co-produced by Naresha Kathooria Films and Ksshitij Chaudhary Films.
It is a family-oriented comedy film that will entertain and will also give a very significant message regarding Punjabi language. It is being released not only in India but has got a number of screens in Pakistan, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand and some European countries.
Talking about the craft of film distribution, Munish Sahni said, “The job requires utter dedication, privacy and safety from the acts of piracy. I have been a part of this industry for whole my life. My father had started Omjee Cineworld (now Omjee Group) and when I took it over; I pledged to take his dream to newer heights.
“Omjee Group has the mission to give wider platform to Punjabi films and make them mainstream just like Bollywood films. We have many films in our kitty but one film we are really looking forward to is ‘Uda Aida’. This film will hit a soft spot about your mother-tongue Punjabi and its relevance.
“However, this will be done in a very humorous way. We really hope that the audience all across the globe will like the work of our team. We are always determined to entertain maximum
number of people.”
