Punjabi Cinema enters into a new zone with Haani

Haani, the Upcoming Punjabi film, which is all, set to release on September 6, is all set to take Punjabi Cinema into an all-new genre – Cultural Romance. Haani is an out and out Romantic flick – this is what one can notice from its Theatrical Trailer. However, we haven’t had any out and out romantic film in the recent past in Punjabi Cinema.

Haani is the story of these true men of the soil, the Jatts who are defined by their simplicity, honesty, courage and good looks and above all – for honoring their commitments lifelong, be it for love, friendship or even enmity. A romantic sage spanning two generations, Haani tells the story of love, friendship and honor immortalized by commitment.

Yaara O Dildara and Heer Ranjha were made but those films were ahead of their times and the Punjabi Audience wasn’t ready to accept something different other than the NRI Family Drama films. But now the times have changed. The acceptance of Comedy films in the recent past is an example of the fact that Punjabi Audience is looking for some newer options within their own Culture and Cinema. Only making comedy films aren’t going to serve good to anyone.

Amitoj Maan and his team have taken a great and courageous step to try this genre in Punjabi Cinema. Many years ago, a film called ‘Mannat’ starring Jimmy Sheirgill and Kulraj Randhawa was a romantic saga that was spread over 2 generations but Haani arrives at a time when Punjabi Cinema is peaking towards it’s most glorious stages.

Also given the fact that Haani stars 2 successful singers – Harbhajan Maan and Sarabjit Cheema who would be sharing the screen space for the first time together, gives a commercial edge to this film.
