Chandigarh: The ongoing Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) protest has divided opinion within Punjab's entertainment fraternity, with several well-known actors and singers taking contrasting positions over the student-led movement and the police action witnessed in Delhi. While some celebrities have openly supported the protesting students and questioned the use of force, others have distanced themselves from the campaign, urging people to understand the movement before lending it their backing.

The differing reactions surfaced after videos of the police crackdown on demonstrators went viral, prompting prominent Punjabi personalities to voice their opinions through interviews and social media posts.

Diljit Dosanjh Appeals for Dialogue

Actor-singer Diljit Dosanjh expressed concern over the treatment of students participating in the protest. He urged authorities to engage with the demonstrators through dialogue instead of confrontation, saying young people raising concerns about their future deserve to be heard.

Diljit also acknowledged that speaking on public issues has often attracted criticism towards him in the past, but maintained that supporting students' right to express themselves is important in a democratic society.

Sonu Sood Calls for Compassion

Bollywood actor Sonu Sood also reacted to the developments, saying students require understanding rather than force. He appealed to the administration to address their grievances through meaningful discussions, adding that peaceful protesters should not be treated as adversaries.

Jasbir Jassi Urges Leaders to Stay Above Politics

Punjabi singer Jasbir Jassi called for a sensitive approach to the issue and appealed to political parties not to exploit the situation.

In a social media message, he said students should be viewed as the nation's children and their concerns deserve careful attention. According to him, the matter should be resolved through constructive dialogue rather than political confrontation.

Sonam Bajwa Shares Emotional Response

Actress Sonam Bajwa also reacted to the controversy, posting a message asking, "Since when did asking questions become wrong?" accompanied by a broken-heart emoji.

Although she did not directly mention the protest, many social media users interpreted her post as expressing concern over the events surrounding the student demonstrations.

Babbu Maan Questions the Movement

Singer Babbu Maan, however, took a different stand and declined to support the agitation.

He questioned why Punjabis are repeatedly expected to stand at the forefront of every national protest, recalling the community's sacrifices during Partition, the 1984 tragedy and the farmers' movement.

Maan also raised questions about the CJP leadership, asking whether those leading the current campaign had stood with Punjab's farmers during their agitation. He argued that people should first examine the background and leadership of any movement before extending support.

The contrasting responses from Punjabi celebrities reflect the broader national divide over the CJP protest.
