Ludhiana: Punjabi singer Inder Kaur, popularly known as Yashinder Kaur, was found dead after her body was recovered from the Neelo canal in Ludhiana, nearly six days after she was allegedly abducted. The discovery has triggered outrage among her family members, who have accused the police of failing to act swiftly despite an earlier complaint.
The body was recovered by local authorities and later identified by the singer’s family. It has been kept at the Civil Hospital in Samrala for post-mortem examination.
According to police records, an FIR had been registered on May 15 following a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother, Jotinder Singh. The case named Sukhwinder Singh, also known as Sukha, a resident of Moga, along with his associate Karamjit Singh, as accused. However, the family alleged that despite filing the complaint, no concrete action was taken in the days that followed.
Jotinder Singh told police that his sister had left their residence around 8:30 pm on May 13 in her Ford Figo to purchase groceries from a nearby market but failed to return. Concerned over her disappearance, family members launched a search and later traced her connection to Sukhwinder Singh, a resident of Bhalur village in Moga district.
The complainant alleged that Sukhwinder had been pressuring Inder Kaur to marry him, but she had declined his proposal. He claimed that anger over her refusal may have driven the accused and his accomplices to abduct her at gunpoint before allegedly killing her.
The family further alleged that Sukhwinder Singh fled to Canada after carrying out the crime. They claimed he had recently travelled to Punjab from Canada and escaped soon after the incident.
Jamalpur police station SHO Balbir Singh confirmed that police were alerted after a body was spotted in the canal. Officers reached the site and summoned the family for identification, after which it was confirmed to be Inder Kaur.
Police said an investigation is underway and efforts are being made to trace the accused and establish the exact sequence of events leading to the singer’s death.
