Rabb Da Radio 4, Mastaney 2 and a Mystery Film — Vehli Janta Films Just Revealed Its Big Plans

Vehli Janta Films is planning well ahead: Rabb Da Radio 4 lands in 2027, Mastaney 2 follows in 2028 and another film is still hiding its identity.

Punjabi cinema usually reveals its future one film at a time. Vehli Janta Films has decided to look much further ahead.

Leading Punjabi film distributor Munish Sahni has shared a new slate from the banner that puts two major franchise titles on the calendar — Rabb Da Radio 4 and Mastaney 2 — while keeping a third film deliberately under wraps.

The roadmap stretches all the way into 2028.

Rabb Da Radio 4 will reach cinemas on September 3, 2027. Mastaney 2 follows on April 14, 2028. Before either of those films arrives, Vehli Janta Films has another date for Punjabi movie fans to remember: March 26, 2027, when the title and poster of a currently unnamed film will be unveiled.

Project Date What Happens
Mystery Project March 26, 2027 Tentative release
Rabb Da Radio 4 September 3, 2027 Theatrical release
Mastaney 2 April 14, 2028 Theatrical release

Rabb Da Radio Is Now a Four-Film Franchise

Perhaps the clearest statement in the entire announcement is the number sitting beside Rabb Da Radio.

What began in 2017 is now officially heading towards a fourth chapter.

The first Rabb Da Radio built its identity around the things Punjabi cinema can capture particularly well when it chooses intimacy over spectacle: family equations, relationships, generational differences and the rhythms of life in Punjab.

Rabb Da Radio 2 followed in 2019 and pushed the family story forward rather than simply borrowing the title for another unrelated film. The sequel went on to win the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Punjabi, giving the franchise a distinction that went beyond its commercial identity.

Seven years later, Rabb Da Radio 3 brought the series back to cinemas in 2026. Harry Bhatti directed the third film, with Tarsem Jassar and Nimrat Khaira among its principal cast, as the story moved into another recognisably Punjabi conflict — a tightly connected village beginning to fracture when rising land values bring greed into relationships that once appeared inseparable.

Now the turnaround to the next instalment will be much shorter.

Rabb Da Radio 4 arrives on September 3, 2027.

Further details are still to come, but that almost makes the announcement more interesting. Three films have already given Rabb Da Radio a recognisable emotional world; the fourth now has to decide whether to continue that world directly, move into another generation or find a new family conflict capable of carrying the name forward.

Reaching film number four also puts Rabb Da Radio into relatively rare territory for contemporary Punjabi cinema. Plenty of Punjabi films have produced sequels; far fewer have developed enough continuity to keep audiences following the same franchise across a decade.

Mastaney 2 Is Vehli Janta’s Bigger-Canvas Bet

If Rabb Da Radio represents the intimate, family-driven side of Vehli Janta Films, Mastaney 2 occupies almost the opposite end of the spectrum.

The sequel will hit cinemas on April 14, 2028, nearly five years after Mastaney first reached the big screen.

Released in 2023, Mastaney attempted something Punjabi cinema still does comparatively rarely: a large-scale historical action drama designed to feel genuinely theatrical.

Set against the events of 1739, the film placed its fictional characters within a period shaped by Nader Shah and Sikh resistance. Tarsem Jassar, Gurpreet Ghuggi, Simi Chahal, Karamjit Anmol and Rahul Dev were among the cast, while Sharan Art wrote and directed the film.

The ambition extended beyond production design. Mastaney was also taken to audiences in multiple Indian languages, giving the film a larger footprint than the conventional Punjabi-only theatrical release.

That makes Mastaney 2 one of the most intriguing projects on this slate.

The first film has already established the visual language and historical scale. A sequel now has the freedom to go larger — whether that means continuing the existing story, moving deeper into the period or opening another chapter altogether.

The Most Intriguing Film on the Slate Does Not Have a Name Yet

Then there is the top panel of Munish Sahni’s announcement — and perhaps the smartest tease of the three.

No star has been revealed.

No genre has been revealed.

There is not even a title.

Instead, Vehli Janta Films has marked March 26, 2027 as the day the project will finally introduce itself, with its title and poster being unveiled together.

For the moment, that blank space gives audiences something the other two projects cannot: a completely open question.

Is Vehli Janta preparing another large franchise film? A new Tarsem Jassar vehicle? Something entirely outside the banner’s familiar territory?

There is enough time for speculation. The answer arrives in March.

Three Dates Punjabi Movie Fans Can Bookmark

September 3, 2027
Rabb Da Radio 4 arrives in cinemas.

April 14, 2028

One Announcement, Three Very Different Bets

That is what makes this slate more interesting than three dates placed on a poster.

Vehli Janta Films is effectively presenting three different sides of its future.

Rabb Da Radio 4 offers franchise familiarity and a decade of audience recognition.

Mastaney 2 represents scale, history and the possibility of taking Punjabi cinema into a bigger visual space.

And the unnamed project provides the wildcard — something capable of changing the shape of the slate once its identity is known.

There is also something notable about simply announcing this far ahead.

Rather than building its calendar around the next theatrical Friday, Vehli Janta Films is publicly laying out a roadmap extending well into 2028. It gives each film room to develop its own campaign while telling audiences that two of the banner’s established properties are being treated as long-term franchises.

For Punjabi movie fans, the first wait is now the shortest one.

On March 26, 2027, the mystery project gets a name.

Then comes Rabb Da Radio 4.

And after that, Mastaney rides again.
