Rajkumar Rao starrer movie Newton have obtained an official entry to Oscar Film Festival from India for the Foreign Film section. Now it has to confront five top nominees of Foreign Language. Earlier, only three films – ‘Mother India’, ‘Salaam Bombay’ and ‘Lagaan’ have been able to do the same.
There is another special thing in the victory of ‘Newton’. It has defeated the grand and successful movie like ‘Bahubali 2’ to reach the Oscars. A jury member informed that “we had 26 entries. 12 Hindi, 5 Marathi, 5 films from Telugu and from the rest of the other languages. ‘Bahubali 2’ was sent in Telugu language. We looked at all the films till date 16 and then took this decision. All members were in favor of ‘Newton’.
Newton, released on September 22, has had a big success. It is to be mentioned that every year the jury chooses that film, which takes an official entry to the Oscars. Regarding this, Rajkumar Rao tweeted yesterday: “I am happy that Newton has an official entry from India for the Oscars this year.” Another special thing is that Amitabh Bachchan, after watching this film, praised it by calling an Eye-Opener.
Let us tell you that, the film Newton is directed by Amit Mussurkar. The story of this film is of an idealistic boy, whose name is Nutan but, he has named him Newton. This idealistic boy (Rajkumar Rao) tries to be honest in every aspect of life. In such a situation, his duty seems to be in Chhattisgarh’s tribal area, where there are only a few voters and this area is battling naxalism badly. In such a situation, will Newton be able to vote fairly? The film has been weighed on the same story.
