As Punjab grapples with one of its worst flood situations in recent years, voices from the state’s vibrant music and film industry are stepping forward to support relief efforts. Renowned Punjabi singer Ranjit Bawa has announced that he will donate the entire proceeds from his recent Alberta concert in Canada to aid flood-hit families back home.

The heartfelt announcement came during his live performance, where Bawa paused to address the audience about the dire situation in Punjab. Before resuming his set, he played a video montage showing devastating visuals from flood-affected areas, moving many in the audience to tears.

“My homeland is suffering,” Bawa told the crowd. “This show tonight is not for me—it’s for those families who’ve lost everything. Every single dollar earned here will go towards helping them rebuild.”

This compassionate gesture follows a similar initiative by Sufi singer Satinder Sartaaj, who earlier pledged to provide ration kits to 500 families impacted by the floods.

Currently, nine districts in Punjab are bearing the brunt of widespread flooding, with emergency response teams including the Army, NDRF, SDRF, BSF, and Punjab Police working round the clock to evacuate residents and deliver aid. According to official figures, over 1,000 villages have been affected, and tens of thousands of hectares of farmland have been submerged or destroyed.
