Samay Raina Donates Rs 10 Lakh to Assam Flood Relief as Death Toll Reaches 98

Guwahati: Stand-up comedian Samay Raina has contributed Rs 10 lakh to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund to support families affected by the ongoing floods in the state.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma acknowledged the contribution on August 8 and thanked Raina publicly for extending support at a time when several parts of the state continue to deal with the impact of flooding.

“Thank you, Samay,” Sarma said while acknowledging the donation.

The contribution comes as the flood situation continues to take a heavy toll across Assam. According to the latest figures, 98 people have lost their lives, while 1,55,849 people across 13 districts remain affected by the floods.

Golaghat among worst-hit districts

Golaghat has emerged as the worst-affected district in terms of the number of people impacted, with 58,750 residents affected. Sivasagar follows with 48,286 people, while 25,259 people have been affected in Jorhat.

Relief operations remain underway, with more than 10,000 people currently staying in 55 relief camps across the affected areas.

The flooding has also caused substantial damage to agriculture. Officials have estimated crop losses across approximately 10,748 hectares of farmland.

Celebrity support adds to relief efforts

Raina's contribution comes as relief agencies and the state administration continue efforts to assist flood-hit communities. Financial contributions from individuals and public figures can provide additional resources for relief and rehabilitation at a time when thousands of families remain displaced or have suffered damage to their livelihoods.

With the flood situation still affecting several districts, the focus is now shifting towards assessing the full extent of the damage and ensuring that assistance reaches affected families.
