Samay Raina has put forward an ambitious idea for the future of The Latent, suggesting that the comedy show could operate without sponsors if enough viewers choose to financially support it through memberships.

Raina recently addressed the reason behind his push for the show's paid membership programme. While piracy remains a major challenge for online creators, he said audience support could offer an alternative source of funding and potentially give the production greater independence.

“Jokes apart, in today's age and time there is no stopping piracy,” Raina said, before asking viewers who enjoy the content to consider becoming members.

He added that membership support could help the team create more content “without any sponsors or stakeholders.”

That statement has sparked curiosity among viewers because sponsorships are an important source of revenue for many large digital entertainment projects. Removing them would require membership income to cover a significant portion, if not all, of the costs involved in producing the show.

Raina's proposal essentially puts the audience at the centre of the show's financial model. Instead of depending on brands to fund episodes, the creator appears to be exploring whether loyal viewers can directly finance the production.

Such a model could also provide creators with more freedom over how their content is produced. At the same time, maintaining a sponsor-free operation would depend heavily on the size and stability of the paying audience.

For The Latent, the idea is particularly notable given the show's online popularity and Raina's large digital following. A successful membership-driven model could demonstrate that a creator-led programme can rely more heavily on its community rather than conventional advertising partnerships.

For now, though, the sponsor-free plan remains a promise for the upcoming season rather than a confirmed change in the show's financing structure.

Whether memberships can generate enough money to make the idea sustainable will become clearer when the next season arrives.

Until then, Raina has certainly raised expectations—and possibly set himself a difficult financial challenge.
