SFS submitted a memorandum regarding the issue of mother tongue in PU

Today SFS submitted a memorandum regarding the issue of mother tongue at V.C. office. After the demand to write Punjabi on signboars the issue of mother tongue was  needed to address further. Language is not only medium to communicate but also language makes possible to think and to grasp any concept. The purpose of universities is to educate masses, it is possible only if our education system would  provide opportunity to learn in mother tongue. The developed countries prefer their mother tongue in education and other spheres. Unfortunately India has been continuing the colonial education system and trying to impose English and Hindi in all regions.
In Panjab University most of the section come from Punjabi and Hindi background. Many students face difficulty in pursuing their education due to compulsion of English especially in research work. The University should provide opportunity to the students to study in their respective languages. The following demands are formulated in this concern:

• Allow M.Phil/Ph.D students to submit their Thesis in Punjabi or Hindi as well, rather than the compulsion of English only
• All entrance exams should be conducted in three languages ie. Punjabi, Hindi and English
• University website should be in Punjabi and Hindi as well
• Books of various subjects in Library must be translated (and make available) in Punjabi and Hindi as well, the student is comfortable to read/study.
