It is true that the term "most-awaited movie" is used lightly in the showbiz. While there's excitement among cinephiles before any new movie on a Friday, it is also true that upcoming Punjabi movie titled 'Shareek 2' is the most-awaited movie in real sense for a large number of fans in Punjab.
Scheduled to be made public on July 8, Shareek 2 is releasing almost seven years after the release of the first part titled 'Shareek' (2015). Having faced its share of delays primarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Shareek 2 will be director Navaniat Singh's first movie in almost three years.
Navaniat, who has worked with actor Jimmy Sheirgill for the seventh time in Shareek 2, has worked with actor Dev Kharoud for the first time in this movie. In what is also the first enrapturing collaboration between Sheirgill and Kharoud, Shareek 2 will mark the former's return to the Punjabi film industry after more than four years.
Apart from these two, Shareek 2 also stars Sharan Kaur, Yograj Singh, Mukul Dev, Aman Sutdhar, Mahabir Bhullar, Amar Noorie, Sunita Dhir and Anita Meet in pivotal roles.
Writer Inderpal Singh, who has writing credits in 'Rupinder Gandhi 2: The Robinhood' (2017), 'Blackia' (2019), 'DSP Dev' (2019) among others and direction credit in 'Zakhmi' (2020), has written the script, screenplay and dialogues of the movie.
Shareek 2 Preview
Although not an extension of Shareek, Shareek 2 will travel on the same lines of bad blood among a kin. In the words of Navaniat, curious fans can expect the movie to comprise of a battle of identity among step brothers. Animosity among family members to claim what is theirs is anticipated to be the focal point of Shareek 2.
At the cost of sounding repetitive, there is no hiding to the fact that eyeballs will enter the cinema halls across the globe to watch a rare conflicting chemistry between Sheirgill and Kharoud.
Producer Vivek Ohri, who had bankrolled the first part, has been joined by Gunbir Singh Sidhu, Manmord Singh Sidhu and Daljit Singh Thind to produce Shareek 2 under the banners of Ohri Productions, While Hill Studios and Thind Motion Films. Readers must note that it is quite unusual for three big shot production houses to come together for one Punjabi movie but the budget of 'Shareek 2' is such that there wasn't any option left.
"It's a very costly film. I always wanted to produce it but wanted someone to assist me. Then I met Sunny [Manmord Sidhu] and [Daljit Singh] Thind sahab and hence this film got made. It's a pure collective work," Ohri had told Punjabi Mania during the trailer launch of the movie last month.
"I must add that myself and Navaniat [Singh] took 4-6 months to finalize the haveli used in the movie. Our production cost increased a lot as most of the havelis were either too modern or too old. Other than Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, we even traveled to Agra, Gwalior and Jaipur before eventually settling on this haveli in Muktsar [Sahib]."
With no major Hindi movie releasing on this Friday, Shareek 2's only competition lies in Ksshitij Chaudhary's 'Sohreyan Da Pind Aa Gaya'. Having said that, expect this quintessential tent-pole movie to gain advantage at the box-office on this Friday itself.
