Punjabi singer Guru Randhawa has landed in legal trouble after a local court in Samrala issued summons for him to appear on September 2. The action follows a complaint alleging objectionable lyrics in his recently released track Sira.
According to Advocate Gurveer Singh Dhillon, the complaint was filed by Rajdeep Singh Mann, a resident of village Burma in Samrala tehsil. The petitioner raised objections to a line in the song containing the words “Jamyaan nu gudhti ch malita afim ai.” He argued that the use of the term “gudhti” was disrespectful, as the word holds special significance in Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.
Advocate Dhillon stated that a legal notice had earlier been served to the singer, demanding removal or clarification regarding the lyric. As the issue remained unresolved, the matter was taken to court, resulting in the summons.
The singer is now required to present himself before the Samrala court on September 2, where the case will be heard. The controversy has sparked debate on the responsibility of artists in choosing lyrics that align with cultural and religious sensitivities.
