A chilling case of extortion has emerged involving popular bhajan singer Hansraj Raghuvanshi, famous for the devotional hit “Mera Bhola Hai Bhandari, Karta Nandi Ki Sawari.” A man has demanded a ransom of Rs 15 lakh from the singer, threatening to kill him and his family if the amount is not paid.

The accused, Rahul Kumar Nagde, a resident of Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, allegedly claimed connections with the infamous Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gangs. The complaint was lodged by Vijay Kataria, Raghuvanshi’s personal security guard, at the Zirakpur police station in Mohali on October 22. An FIR has been registered in the matter.

According to the complaint, the accused first met the singer approximately three years ago at a program at the Ujjain Mahakal Temple. Presenting himself as Hansraj Raghuvanshi’s ardent fan, Nagde even created an Instagram account under the pseudonym Rahul Raghuvanshi, seeking the singer’s attention and eventual follow in 2023.

Nagde reportedly developed a close relationship with the singer’s family, attending Hansraj’s wedding and frequenting his events in Madhya Pradesh. Using this access, he allegedly started defrauding people by impersonating the singer’s younger brother, soliciting expensive gifts and even extorting money from unsuspecting fans.

When complaints regarding Nagde’s activities began to surface, Hansraj unfollowed him on social media. Subsequently, Nagde escalated matters by issuing death threats to the singer, his wife, family, and team through multiple phone and WhatsApp calls.

The complainant stated that Nagde’s threatening messages included claims of ties with the Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar gangs dating back to 2016, intensifying concerns over the safety of the singer and his family.

Police officials have confirmed the registration of an FIR and said that investigation is underway. Authorities are reportedly examining Nagde’s social media activity, phone records, and past movements to trace his alleged network and prevent further threats.

This case has sent shockwaves through the music and devotional community, highlighting the increasing risks public figures face from impostors and criminal elements.
