People are learning a lot about our Punjabi culture and heritage through punjabi period drama films. The long lost custom of punjab, Muklawa, also came into picture, and the young generation learnt about it, when the concept was highlighted in the film Daana Pani, which was also a period drama film that released last year. This concept, would be once again given life on the screen through celluloid, with the ace director Simerjit Singh’s next film MuklawaAmmy Virk and Sonam Bajwa will play the leads in the film.

Sonam Bajwa, who was last seen playing a strong role, in the female oriented movie, Guddiyan Patole, has had her own beautiful journey in this industry, marked by many highs and lows, and appreciation and criticism. Born and brought up in Nanakmatta, a small town in Uttrakhand, Sonam worked as an air hostess before she stepped into modelling. Sonam also participated in the Femina Miss India 2012. She started her journey in the Punjabi industry in 2013, when she bagged her first role in Gippy Grewal and Jazzy starrer film Best Of Luck. Even though her debut film did not get her a lot of attention, she gained massive success in the next year, when her second film, Punjab 1984 released, and received an overwhelming response from the audience. Sonam had played the role of a simple village girl and the love interest of Diljit Dosanjh, who played the main lead in the movie.

After this there was no looking back for the actress, and she played a spectrum of different roles, in various movies including Sardar Ji 2, Nikka Zaildar, Manje Bistre, Super Singh, Nikka Zaildar 2, Carry On Jatta 2 and Guddiyan Patole. The actress has also tried her hand in Tamil and Telugu movies. She will also be playing a role in the upcoming Hindi film Street Dancer, which will be directed by Remo D’Souza and will star big Bollywood names like Varun Dhawan, Prabhudeva and Shraddha Kapoor.

In a recent interview, Sonam said that she really enjoys doing period dramas as they help her get closer to her roots and know more about the old traditions and culture. Her upcoming film, Muklawa, is also a period drama, and set in the 1980’s. Her look from the film is being loved by the fans and is going viral on the internet.

Currently, Sonam is actively promoting Muklawa and is gearing up for the release. Muklawa has been made under the banner of White Hill Studios in association with the Grey Slate Pictures. This film is Sonam’s third film with the director and also her third movie with her costar Ammy Virk. The movie is being bankrolled by Gunbir Singh Sidhu and Manmord Singh Sidhu and has been written by Raju Verma. The film will be released and distributed by the White Hill Studios worldwide on 24 May this year.

The makers promise a beautiful family film with a blend of romance, drama and emotions. The trailer and the music of the movie is getting a very good response from the audience. The fans are eagerly looking forward to the film.
