Actress Sonam Bajwa is facing criticism online after a video of her dancing during New Year celebrations in Goa went viral. Many social media users have taken issue with her outfit and dance moves, claiming that her short costume and performance were inappropriate and hurt Punjabi cultural sentiments.
Several users expressed anger over the clip, with some arguing that her attire misrepresents Punjabi culture. One social media user commented that such clothing “makes a mockery of Punjab,” while another labelled her a “failed actress” in response to the video.
Criticism also extended to her dance moves. Some commenters nostalgically compared the present with the past, claiming that such “vulgarity” was not common earlier.
This controversy adds to a series of public debates surrounding Bajwa. The actress has previously faced backlash for portraying characters that smoked or drank alcohol on screen and for participating in a film shoot near a mosque, which drew criticism from certain community groups.
Fans of the actress, however, have defended her, arguing that entertainment and personal expression should not be conflated with cultural disrespect. The debate continues to trend on multiple social media platforms as users voice differing opinions about the performance.
