The upcoming war epic ‘Border 2’ continues to generate massive buzz as it expands its cast, with actress Sonam Bajwa now officially confirmed to star alongside Diljit Dosanjh in the much-awaited sequel. The two Punjabi cinema heavyweights will share the screen once again, marking their reunion after their popular outing in Honsla Rakh.

Set for a January 22, 2026 release, the film promises to be a modern homage to the 1997 classic Border, which captured the emotional and heroic stories of Indian soldiers during the 1971 Indo-Pak war. The original, directed by J.P. Dutta, is remembered for its stirring patriotism, memorable performances, and haunting music.

Star-Studded Line-Up

The sequel boasts a powerful ensemble. Sunny Deol, who played a leading role in the original, returns to reprise his iconic character, reigniting memories of his career-defining performance. Varun Dhawan steps into a key role, adding youthful energy to the narrative, while Diljit Dosanjh is expected to deliver a performance rich in emotional depth and patriotic spirit.

Also joining the cast is Ahaan Shetty, son of actor Suniel Shetty — who was part of the original film — and rising actress Medha Rana, further expanding the generational appeal of the sequel.

Sonam Bajwa, fresh off her Bollywood appearances in Housefull 5 and Baaghi 4, has quickly carved a niche for herself across regional and Hindi cinema. Her casting opposite Diljit Dosanjh not only adds star power but also brings a layer of familiarity and chemistry that fans of Punjabi cinema will appreciate.

Reuniting for a Bigger Story

Sonam and Diljit’s previous collaboration in the romantic comedy Honsla Rakh was a commercial success and a fan favorite. This time, they will share the screen in a film steeped in emotion, duty, and sacrifice — a significant shift in tone that is expected to highlight their dramatic range.

Their pairing in a large-scale war drama also signals a blend of regional star power with national storytelling, a trend increasingly embraced by filmmakers to broaden audience appeal.

Anurag Singh at the Helm

Acclaimed director Anurag Singh, known for hits like Kesari and Punjab 1984, is steering the project. His experience in both war narratives and emotional dramas makes him a fitting choice to direct a film that must honor the legacy of its predecessor while resonating with today’s viewers.
