Chandigarh: Actress Sonam Bajwa has used her social media platform to draw attention to the condition of rescued dogs housed in animal shelters, appealing to authorities and the public to ensure that rescue efforts are accompanied by proper care and humane living conditions.
In a heartfelt Instagram Story, the actress expressed concern over the state of some animal shelters, saying that many people believe stray dogs can simply be picked up from the streets and relocated to shelters without understanding the realities inside certain facilities.
Bajwa wrote that she was "heartbroken and horrified" after seeing images purportedly showing the condition of some shelters. Stressing that rescue should improve an animal's life rather than add to its suffering, she called for greater accountability in the management of such facilities.
The actress appealed to the government and the concerned authorities to conduct inspections of animal shelters and ensure that rescued dogs receive proper care, treatment and a dignified environment. She emphasised that every rescued animal deserves compassion and adequate welfare standards.
Bajwa also urged people not to ignore the issue, encouraging citizens to raise their voices for animals that cannot speak for themselves. Her message highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in protecting the welfare of stray and rescued animals.
The Instagram Story has resonated with many animal lovers on social media, with users echoing her demand for stricter monitoring of shelters and improved conditions for rescued animals. Several supporters also called for greater transparency in the functioning of animal welfare facilities and stronger enforcement of existing animal protection norms.
Known for occasionally speaking on social causes, Sonam Bajwa's latest appeal has once again brought the spotlight on animal welfare and the need to ensure that rescue initiatives translate into safe, healthy and humane living conditions for stray animals.
