Mumbai: Singer Sonu Nigam has once again shown why music remains such an integral part of his life. In a remarkable video shared online, the celebrated singer can be seen singing Mohammed Rafi’s timeless song “Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki” while undergoing a surgical procedure.

Nigam was being operated on for a recurring growth on his left ring finger. The growth had reportedly returned months after it was removed previously, leading to another procedure.

What could have been a tense moment inside the operating room took an unexpectedly musical turn when songs from Nigam’s Rafi Resurrected album were played for him.

An operating room turns into a mini concert

As an instrumental track began playing, Nigam spontaneously joined in and started singing. He eventually performed two to three songs for the surgical team led by Dr Nilesh Satbhai.

Among the songs he sang was Rafi’s 1949 classic Suhani Raat Dhal Chuki, creating an unusual scene inside the operating theatre.

Despite being in the middle of a medical procedure, Nigam appeared to remain composed and engaged with the music. The singer later described the experience as an organic and joyful moment, even though he was dealing with the discomfort associated with the procedure.

Music becomes the unexpected source of calm

The video has attracted attention not just because of Nigam’s singing, but also because of the unusual setting in which the performance took place.

With the singer’s own music playing in the background, the atmosphere inside the operating room reportedly became more relaxed. The moment also offered a striking reminder of how deeply music is connected to Nigam’s life — even when he found himself on the operating table.

Fans have reacted warmly to the clip, praising the singer for his professionalism, spirit and ability to find joy in an uncomfortable situation.

For someone who has spent decades behind the microphone, Nigam’s impromptu performance offered perhaps the most unusual stage yet — an operating room, a surgical team and a timeless Mohammed Rafi melody.
