The year 2017 is in its twilight. It is that time of the year when people concoct plans regarding the New Year's eve. It is that time of the year when people build new resolutions. It is also that time of the year when all métiers are scrutinised.
We, at Punjabi Mania, have covered news vis-à-vis Punjabi movies for the whole of 2017. With just a handful of days remaining in the year, we believe that this is the best time to review the performances across various spheres of activity.
Let us get the ball rolling with the 'Top 5 Standout Performance' of the year (Male).
1. Gippy Grewal (Manje Bistre) - The Desi Rockstar of the Punjabi film industry, Grewal, made his presence felt to a great extent this year in the mega-hit 'Manje Bistre'. His role as Sukhi was widely appreciated in the vaudeville film which went on to enter the record books as the highest grosser Punjabi movie ever. What added eminence to his role in this movie was the fact that his last four movies (or roles) in 'Lock', 'Kaptaan', 'Faraar' and 'Second Hand Husband' were as dry as dust.
2. Amrinder Gill (Lahoriye) - Walking on the path of consistency for some years now, Amrinder 'Glorious' Gill performed the role of Kikkar Singh with consummate virtuosity. Call it his experience or his keenness to upgrade, what works in his favour every time is the way in which he fine-tunes himself into various roles. In what was their third movie, his chemistry with Sargun Mehta is worth praising and something that the fans of Punjabi cinema would want to see again and again in the future.
3. Ammy Virk (Saab Bahadar & Nikka Zaildar 2) - Been awarded the best Punjabi actor last year, a lot was expected out of Virk this time. Something which should have given him a lot of contentment was the fact that he stood tall on all those expectations. His role in and as 'Saab Bahadar' gained heavy accolades in Punjab and overseas. Perhaps, a movie of such genre was bound to do well at the box-office. For the second time consecutively, Virk was spoken highly of as Nikka.
4. Binnu Dhillon (Vekh Baraatan Challiyan) - In what was yet another victorious year for Binnu 'Versatile' Dhillon, he continued to appear in lead roles, something which he started last year and something which should have come to him much earlier. Dhillon was sensational in 'Vekh Baraatan Challiyan'. Much like his earlier projects, his spontaneity game with his dialogues in the movie was on point, yet again!
5. Dev Kharoud (Rupinder Gandhi 2: The Robinhood) - Irrespective of the country or the region, there comes a time in every actor's life, where he acts in a movie which ends up becoming his own or his signature movie. The Rupinder Gandhi series is one such epitome for Dev Kharoud. Not that his co-actors have been lacklustre, it is just that Kharoud, acting as Rupinder Gandhi, has come out as the biggest beneficiary from the series. Such was the impact left by him in both the movies.
