In a major legal development, the Supreme Court of India on March 12, 2026 granted bail to two accused in the 2022 killing of Punjabi singer and politician Sidhu Moosewala.
A bench comprising Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta passed the order after hearing arguments related to the case. The court granted relief to Pawan Bishnoi and Jagtar Singh, who were among several individuals arrested in connection with the high-profile murder.
Investigators have previously alleged that Bishnoi played a role in arranging vehicles linked to the criminal network associated with gangster Lawrence Bishnoi. Authorities also claimed that Jagtar Singh carried out reconnaissance activities ahead of the attack.
Sidhu Moosewala, a widely known Punjabi singer who had also been associated with the Indian National Congress, was shot dead in Punjab in May 2022, an incident that triggered nationwide outrage and a large-scale investigation.
The case has involved multiple arrests and probes into organised crime networks suspected of involvement in the killing. With the Supreme Court granting bail to the two accused, the legal proceedings in the matter will continue in the lower courts as the trial moves forward.
