Mumbai: What was expected to be a grand, multi-language release of Dhurandhar 2 turned into a day of confusion and delays, as theatres across several cities struggled to screen the film on schedule. With cancellations, late starts, and missing versions reported widely, the film’s opening faced an unplanned setback.

Director Aditya Dhar addressed the situation directly, issuing a clarification to audiences and acknowledging the inconvenience caused. He explained that while the Hindi version of the film had begun screening in phases, several regional versions were not ready in time due to technical complications.

According to the statement, Hindi shows resumed in many locations by the evening, while Tamil and Telugu screenings were pushed to later hours. Malayalam and Kannada versions, however, were delayed until the next day. Viewers who had booked tickets for unavailable versions were offered refunds or the option to switch to Hindi screenings with subtitles.

Across major cinema hubs, the impact was immediately visible. In parts of Delhi-NCR, multiple theatres pulled down scheduled shows at short notice, particularly during peak evening slots. Reports also indicated that premium format screenings were temporarily suspended, adding to the disruption.

Mumbai witnessed similar scenes, with crowds gathering outside popular theatres as scheduled shows failed to start. In several cases, screenings were delayed indefinitely as theatres waited for updated digital files and necessary clearance keys required for playback.

Industry insiders say the issue stemmed from last-minute modifications to the film, possibly linked to certification requirements, which delayed the final delivery of content to distributors. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala noted that only the Hindi version was fully processed, while dubbed editions were still undergoing final adjustments in sound and editing.

This delay hit southern markets particularly hard. Many cinema operators in cities like Chennai and Hyderabad reported that they did not receive the regional versions in time, forcing them to cancel scheduled shows. The lack of clarity led to frustration among audiences who had pre-booked tickets for Tamil and Telugu screenings.

The situation highlights the growing dependence of film releases on digital distribution systems, where encrypted content and activation permissions must align perfectly. Even minor delays in this process can disrupt screenings nationwide.

Featuring Ranveer Singh in the lead, alongside Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, and R. Madhavan, Dhurandhar 2 was designed as a large-scale pan-India release. Despite the rocky start, the production team has assured that all versions will be made available soon, with efforts underway to stabilise screenings across regions.

As theatres work to resolve the glitches, the coming days will determine whether the film can recover from its disrupted opening and draw audiences back to cinemas.
