The Punjabi Cinema Show Episode 7: The seventh episode of The Punjabi Cinema Show talks of an absolute legend of the Punjabi cinema.
Titled 'Contribution of Jimmy Sheirgill to Modern Punjabi Cinema', the seventh episode of 'The Punjabi Cinema Show' had released last week.
Sheirgill, who is a proven name in the field of acting not just in the Punjabi film industry but also in Bollywood, has been part of 14 Punjabi movies till date. Having made his debut in the Punjabi industry with Manmohan Singh's 'Yaaran Naal Baharaan' (2005), the first half of Sheirgill's Punjabi filmography comprised of movies one better than the other.
In this episode, host Yasmin Kaur is joined by core team members Sameer Valecha, Rehaan Singh and Bikram Singh Batth (friend of the podcast) as the four of them discuss the role played by Sheirgill in shaping the Punjabi film industry especially in the first decade of this century.
In addition to picking their favourite Punjabi movie starring Sheirgill, the members opened up on the variation in his films over the years and a two-year gap which changed things drastically for him.
Acknowleding a decline in his movies in the second half of his career, the team discusses how Sheirgill eventually started to lose his fan-base on the back of several movies didn't commercially or critically.
With Sheirgill returning with a couple of Punjabi movies next year, he will have a theatrical release in the Punjabi industry after almost four years. Last but not the least, the members expressed their excitement at the prospect of witnessing an absolute legend of the Punjabi cinema on the big screen once again.
