Pakistani actor and comedian Iftikhar Thakur has once again found himself at the center of a controversy after making bold claims about the Pakistani film industry's role in the success of Indian cinema.
Speaking at a recent event, Thakur said, "They can't give a hit without us. We used to write the film and dialogues for them and we have delivered hits." The sweeping statement, aimed at the Indian film industry, has drawn sharp reactions across social media and the entertainment community on both sides of the border.
This isn’t the first time Thakur has made controversial remarks. During heightened tensions between India and Pakistan in the past, he had issued a provocative statement saying, "If they [India] come through air, they’ll be bombed. If they come through land, they will be buried under. And if they dare to come through the sea, they will be drowned."
His comments had sparked backlash then, with many critics labeling his remarks as inflammatory and jingoistic. The recent statement about Indian cinema has only reignited that criticism, with many netizens calling out his "unfounded arrogance" and questioning the relevance of his claims in today's globalized entertainment landscape.
Neither Punjabi cinema's representatives nor Punjabi filmmakers have officially responded to Thakur’s latest statement, but social media continues to buzz with mixed reactions, some calling for restraint, others defending his right to express his views.
