Mumbai police have begun an inquiry after actor Aayush Sharma, brother-in-law of Bollywood star Salman Khan, allegedly received a threatening email from an individual claiming ties to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

According to officials, the message was sent electronically and contained assertions that the sender was associated with the notorious criminal network. Authorities have not disclosed the contents of the email in detail, but confirmed that the matter is being examined seriously.

Although no formal complaint has been lodged so far, the city’s crime branch has taken cognisance of the development. Investigators are working to determine whether the threat is credible or the result of a prank or attempt to create panic.

An officer familiar with the probe said digital trails are being analysed to trace the origin of the email and establish the identity of the sender. “We are verifying the authenticity of the message and whether there is any actual link to the gang mentioned,” the official said.

The incident comes amid heightened concern in the film industry following similar threats in recent days. Actor Ranveer Singh recently received a menacing voice note via WhatsApp from unidentified individuals. Police sources indicated that extortion could be a possible motive behind that communication, with suspicion also pointing towards elements linked to the Bishnoi gang.

In a separate episode last week, gunshots were fired outside filmmaker Rohit Shetty’s residence in Mumbai’s Juhu locality. While no injuries were reported in that case, the incident added to anxieties within the entertainment fraternity.

Law enforcement agencies have increased surveillance and are coordinating across departments to prevent further incidents. Officials reiterated that they are assessing each case individually while also examining whether there is any connection between the recent threats targeting prominent figures in the industry.

No arrests have been announced so far in connection with the email sent to Sharma. Police said further details would be shared once preliminary findings are confirmed.
